Last week we wrote about the “Things We Wish We Knew Before Starting Triathlon“. One of the big “things” among them was that all races are not created equal. As you begin to plan your triathlon racing calendar, we wanted to be sure you knew about the Trifecta Triathlon at Possum Kingdom Lake.

There are many things to look for when selecting the best triathlon races. Here are some of the details on the Trifecta Triathlon to help you see why this September 16th race is a great event to add to your 2012 schedule.

Location: Possum Kingdom Lake

One of the most important factors to consider when choosing a tri race is location. First, decide if you want to do a race that is more or less in your backyard; where you can just roll out of your own bed in the morning and head to the race. Or, decide if you’d prefer the adventure of a destination-race. Destination races give you the opportunity to enjoy a new place while also tackling a race. The Trifecta Triathlon will take place at Possum Kingdom Lake, less than 90 miles west of Fort Worth. It’s a nearby destination within a short road trip to Austin. Described as the “Great Lake of Texas”, the crystal clear waters and majestic setting of Possum Kingdom Lake make for a great setting for the Trifecta Tri and a fantastic destination for all racers!

Course Highlights: Clear water, scenic course, well-organized.

Water conditions can often be a make-or-break when deciding on what triathlon races to do. Jumping into Possum Kingdom Lake, you might not want to get out because of how clear it is! Athletes will begin the race at one point of the lake, swim to the opposite shore where you’ll transition for the bike portion of the race – the bike course has something for everyone with its rolling terrain. The Trifecta Triathlon finishes with a run along the lake and through the new Brazos River Authority trail system.
