Whether you’re a weekend warrior, professional athlete, or somewhere in between, Road ID is an essential piece of equipment you cannot be without! Road ID is a simple way to bring your identification info with you at all times by wearing it on your wrist, ankle or shoe. This is especially important if you are ever in an accident or emergency situation while running, riding your bike, swimming, hiking, etc.
The idea for Road ID was born during marathon training when the founder was nearly hit by a truck on one of his long runs. Luckily, the
truck missed him, but he had flashbacks to all the times his dad told him to be safe and bring his ID with him…just in case. If you are in an accident and you don’t have ID on you, the hospital can’t alert your family or access your medical records – which is especially important if you have any medical conditions they need to know about.
The MyFitList team is never without their Road IDs during outdoor activities! We opted for the Road ID Slim – a flexible silicone band (similar to a “LIVESTRONG” band) with a slim engraved tag. The tag contains your emergency contact and medical info so first-responders like EMS/Police have all the details they need about you in case you’re unconscious or unresponsive.
The band is comfortable, waterproof, and discreet enough to leave it on all the time. There are a variety of band colors and types including an adjustable velcro band, a larger rubber band, tags for shoes and dog-tags.
Prices range from $16-$30 for a custom Road ID, making it a useful and affordable accessory you really can’t be without. It will give you and your family a little peace of mind next time you venture out on that long run or ride. Order your Road ID here.
Do any MyFitList friends out there already own a Road ID? Have you ever had an experience when you were thankful you did? We’d love to hear about it!
Be safe out there and be prepared!

The MyFitList Fit Business of the Week is Relentless Bootcamp!
Megan Parsons leads a team of amazing coaches in a program that encourages clients to “be relentless” and reach for their highest potential. The classes include a variety of dynamic exercises that result in a lean, toned body. If you want to get out of the gym and try something unique, this is the group for you!
How long have you been in business: August 2005. Jeremy Thiel, owner and CoFounder of CrossFit Central, moved to Austin in 2005 with a dream to build a fit community and become a staple in Austin’s fitness community. He shared this vision with his sister, Carey Kepler, Co Founder of CrossFit Central. Together, the brother/sister team began with only 12 clients and one boot camp location. This quickly grew to 4 boot camp locations. We now have 23 class times around the city!
Where are you located: All over the city of Austin. Parks and schools. All of our class times and locations are listed on the MyFitList site.
What are your specific services: Body assessments; Coach to hold you accountable; Free workouts & recipes; Complementary Nutrition & Goal setting meetings; Boot Camp Challenges/Events; Complementary CFE Endurance workout at the track
What is your style/philosophy: Be Relentless. We meet our clients exactly where they are and help them push their limits. We are functional fitness outside the box.
What is the typical profile of your clients: Mid 20s-Late 50s
What are the benefits:
- Core strength and a tighter back side
- Discount on Kettlebells
- Nutrition education
- Function that will apply to any sport as well as every day life
- Accountability of goals for maximum results
- Increase in strength and cardiovascular endurance
- Increase in coordination and agility
- Have a blast working out with like-minded, motivated people

What should clients expect at their first session. How should they prepare? Each client will experience a full-body workout utilizing Dynamax Med balls, kettlebells, and body weight movements. All classes are an hour long and consist of 7-10 minute intervals. Everyone brings a mat, towel, and water bottle to class. The new person is provided a kettlebell for the 1st class but then asked to purchase their own kettlebell based on the weight they prefer.
Do you offer a trial or initial consultation? What’s the best way for new clients to get started? Yes. The very 1st class is free. All we ask is for you to email info@relentlessbootcamp.com to let us know which class time/location you want to try so we can make the coach aware ahead of time. We also offer a monthly community workout at Luke’s Locker the last Saturday of every month from 8:30-9:30am.
How do clients pay? Per class? Per month? Monthly. All classes run on 4 week cycles; however, you can join class at any time. We offer 2x (8 per month) or3x (12 per month) per week classes. Natalie Yerkovich and Chrissie Jarrell, the gals who created MyFitList, do the grunt work for you. Well, the organizational grunt work, anyway. They work hard to connect people with the fitness groups, information and resources they need so they can grunt, sweat and tone to achieve their personal goals.
Yerkovich, “a previously frustrated fitness seeker,” created MyFitList with Jarrell to resolve her struggle of finding new groups to join. Now she describes herself as having “a knack for helping connect people with their ideal fitness groups.” Jarrell brings her experience as a fitness guru to the business side of things, creating a strong partnership.
MyFitList makes it easy to search for the perfect fitness group for your schedule, neighborhood and activity of choice. Because Austin is proudly one of the fittest cities in the nation, the options can be overwhelming. MyFitList brings the best of yoga, boot camps, triathlon groups and more right to your fingertips. Jarrell and Yerkovich know that “if your fitness routine is too inconvenient or you don’t click with the trainer, you’re less likely to stick with it and see results.”
Run a fitness group? MyFitList can help your business thrive by giving you “an effective way to connect with potential clients who are looking for exactly what you offer.” MyFitList has no intention of getting stuck at a plateau here in Austin; Jarrell and Yerkovich plan to flex their muscles in other cities soon.
Austin Woman is pleased to partner with MyFitList to bring you the latest workouts and fitness information. In addition to their monthly column, Yerkovich and Jarrell will be contributing to Austin Woman with blog postings, and Facebook and Twitter connections.
Check out their blog, for tips, events, workout videos and giveaways. They feature a new fitness business every week to expand your horizons and keep you feeling the burn.

Massage can be a really important part of reaching your fitness goals. Active people of all levels credit massage for repairing and preventing injuries. There are a variety of massage types available out there, and it’s definitely worth knowing the difference between a “Clinical” or ”Sports” massage style versus a “Spa” or “Swedish” massage. Learn more in this guest blog post from Kate Ripley, massage therapist and owner of Austin Bodyworker, on how clinical and spa massage are different, and which type of massage is best for you!
**
Spa (aka Swedish) Massage - Long, flowing massage strokes (called effleurage) to relax the nervous system and help create a sense of general relaxation, reduce stress and enhance well-being. Usually, there is no particular areas of focus and it is almost always a full-body experience.
Clinical (aka Sports) Massage – More targeted or focused work on specific areas of the body which the client alerts the massage therapist to. A general warm-up (effleurage) is a way to get the tissues and body ready for more in-depth work (such as trigger point compression or separating the tissues) for the majority of the massage session. This type of work is good for repetitive-stress and repetitive-use injuries, muscle soreness/tightness and general stress relief. Rarely is the session a full-body experience, unless the client has booked a longer session to allow for the time it takes for the tissues to really let go and allow for deeper work.
The Austin Bodyworker is a clinical massage office located at 12th and Lamar in Austin. We have a staff of massage therapists who specialize in clinical massage and have years of experience in their respective fields. Make an appointment anytime with our 24/7 online scheduler, making it easy to schedule when you are ready, no matter the time of day or night. New clients who schedule for a 60-or 90-minute sessions enjoy $20 off their first session. We want to take the scary out of finding a massage therapist who you “click” with!
- Kate Ripley, Owner and Therapist
The Austin Bodyworker, Clinical Massage Clinic
About Kate Ripley: I have been a “clinical” massage therapist for 8 years now and still have a deep passion for the work that I am lucky enough to get to do. I feel that drive to help my clients achieve their goals for health, obtain a level of movement without pain and also to help them feel good and help foster a good mind-body connection. What is contained within this article is purely my opinion and should not be taken as fact, or a representation of facts.

How long have you been in business
PRIMO has been established since April of 2010 but I have been in business as a Physical Therapist and Personal Trainer for over 12 years.

Where are you located
Physical Therapy and ART services are offered inside my office located in Texas Running Company next door to West Elm (5th/Lamr) at 1011 W. 5th St. in Suite #110. Free above ground covered parking! Personal Training services are offered in multiple locations convenient for the client.
What are your specific services
PRIMO offers Physical Therapy, Active Release Techniques, Kinesio Taping, Personal Training and Performance Training.
What is your style/philosophy
I believe in providing each and every one of my clients with one-on-one direct care. This belief, which I have had since my early years as a staff physical therapist, has inspired me to open up my very own business. I got extremely fed up with the ‘assembly line’ system of care I was used to while working for others in bigger clinics. I would be allowed only 15-20 minutes of face to face time, and then the client would be passed to a tech or assistant and then taken through a list of exercises or modalities. Forced to move on to the next client to keep all my scheduled appointments, I no longer was allowed to monitor exercises or progress of the client. I am so much happier now that I get to spend as much time with the client as I see fit.
What is the typical profile of your clients
They vary! I see clients with pain from overuse postures (ie office workers that must sit for prolonged periods of time, or clients that must stand most of the day). And, of course, I see athletes in various sports and in varying levels of the sport. Clients come in for treatment for an injury or guidance with an exercise program. They come in for Kinesio Taping, a biomechanical check, or just some extra motivation!
What are the benefits
Active Release Techniques, in and of itself, is a wonderful manual technique providing the client with increased blood flow, increased oxygen uptake, less
pain, more movement and range of motion, better posture, more energy, better performance, and the list goes on! The benefits of exercise, as we all already know, are vast including the above stated benefits, as well as assisting with brain function and mental health. Kinesio Taping helps support muscle, tendon, tissue and joint and can also assist with correcting posture.
What should clients expect at their first session. How should they prepare?
I prefer all clients come into the office on the first session for a biomechanical screen and to get goals established. If the client has a Physical Therapy prescription from his/her doctor, than we proceed with a full Physical Therapy evaluation and treatment. They always wear something comfortable and bring water.
Do you offer a trial or initial consultation? What’s the best way for new clients to get started?
Yes, everyone gets an initial consultation via phone or e-mail, whichever they prefer, and all begin in the office for a biomechanical screen or evaluation. They can call or e-mail me anytime!
How do clients pay? Per class? Per month?
Physical Therapy visits may be covered by insurance depending on the insurance carrier and plan. Other sessions can be purchased by the session or group of sessions.
Anything else you would like to include to help readers get a better understanding of your business and services?
I have worked with an vast array of clients and enjoy all of them, including office workers, weekend warriors, elite athletes, high school and college athletes, moms, and the list goes on! I have been participating in triathlons and runs for many years, therefore I have a frame of reference to help the athlete with injuries or performance. Recently I have had a baby, so can most definitely help the female athlete/mother, as well!
